Often Tied up at Work? Try Being Tied up in the Bedroom With These 5 Must-try Bondage Techniques!

Are you already a fan of using cuffs or ropes in bed, or maybe you’re looking to start working them into your play time? These accessories have much more to offer than simply restricting movement, they allow you to vary sensations, structure interactions between partners, as well as reinforce certain sexual dynamics, all of which is possible regardless of your experience level.

Don’t worry about trying to master all the complicated stuff, the most important thing is knowing how to properly use an accessory as it ensures your normal routine is shaken up, thus intensifying stimulation and introducing a form of erotic tension.

1. Bind the Wrists Together

Binding the wrists is one of the most efficient, direct ways to get into bondage play. It immediately limits your partners physical autonomy, thus recentering all of their attention on receiving stimulation. This type of restriction creates a bodily tension that makes every touch stand out, and heightens every movement.

You can bind the wrists together, fix them to an anchor point (the bed frame, a piece of furniture…), or keep them locked in a certain position. The possibilities are endless! Play can also be adapted to the accessory you choose to use: handcuffs, straps, ropes or a harness.

2. Obstruct the Legs

By attaching the legs, you can play with pelvic movements, the opening of the hips and the stability of positions. Whether it’s to keep the legs open and welcoming, stop any resistance or simply to restrict movements, this option can have a big impact on the dynamic within a session.

Depending on the type of obstruction you go for (ankles crossed over one another, legs spread or attached to a support), the feeling of being on show will be more or less palpable. This is also a great way to set a rhythm, make pleasure last longer, or even to amplify the effects of certain targeted stimulation.

3. Remain in One Position

Bondage accessories are also great if you want to be able to ensure added support or stability in specific positions without your partner having to exert too much energy. This will allow you to explore postures for longer or with added intensity, whilst avoiding any physical discomfort.

Whether on your knees, your stomach, your side, or in a suspended position (for those more experienced types), ropes and straps can help you get the right alignment, depth and desired angles. You could also use cross tie restraints, handcuffs that are attached to spreader bars, or bed restraints depending on the environment you play in.

4. Restrict Certain Movements

We often forget that for bondage to be an effective bedroom addition, being fully tied up isn’t absolutely necessary. Restricting one single movement- stopping legs from closing, not letting the other person do any touching, stopping them from being able to turn over- can be enough to intensify feelings of control or create a super stimulating game of resistance.

For example, attaching one's wrist to their thigh, or attaching a hand to the bed, can be enough to impose certain positions or create acute tension. This type of partial limitation means the rest of the body is free to move, whilst the focus is on these localised points of restriction. This is perfect if you want to play around with frustration, anticipation or ensure full control of stimulated areas.

5. Mix Multiple Attachment Points

Once you’ve conquered the basics of bondage accessories, this next step is combining them. Attach wrists to ankles, create crossover points, link arms and legs together… By multiplying these fastening points, you’ll be able to create more complex, asymmetrical or totally enveloping positions.

This will allow you to explore more all round physically overwhelming postures, hands free stimulation or all consuming bodily sensations. This approach does demand more attention to the comfort and security of your partner (avoid putting too much pressure on joints and make sure they have enough circulation), but it does offer a wide scope of possibilities for play.

Bondage accessories- ropes, cuffs, straps, harnesses- aren’t simple toys. They’re tools that allow you to explore the balance between restriction and freedom, mobility and tension, comfort and arousal… When used properly, they can provide deep enriching experiences without you necessarily having to resort to roleplay.

What’s most important is that you and your partner listen to one another, discuss everything beforehand and after the fact, and that you listen to your body. Each restraint can be a place of unique exploration that can be adapted to your desires, your setup and each individual shared moment.
